Pattu is to Rajasthan what Pashmina is to Jammu & Kashmir. Exclusivity, intricacy and a feel of pride run through every weave of these shawls handcrafted by the seasoned artisans in the arid land of Barmer and Jaisalmer in Western Rajasthan. Pattu Shawls are identified by their peculiar weave in the shape of strips or patti where it has derived its name "Pattu" from. The shawl is made of natural fiber wool collected from local sheep, dyed naturally and embellished with peculiar thread patterns, mostly geometrical. The color scheme mostly comprises vibrant colors like Red, Orange, Yellow, Pink, Blue and Green against the natural off white or cream white wool color. Originally used by the weavers, Pattu has increasingly become a style statement for men and women alike.
